“Some Things Never Change”

M’Lady and M’Self got married in the 1900′s
About a thousand years ago.
When we knew everything and nothing at all.
Our great sons did not rule the world back then.
Neither Noa Thunder.
Nor Levi Rock.
Not even the beard had been born.
These were simpler days.
But not easier.

We did not have mobile devices for talking.
We just had our mouths.
And they never ran out of minutes.
We did not have a machine for washing
We just had our hands.
But even they wouldn’t stay clean.
We did not have money for buying.
We just had our hearts.
And they were stolen and used.

A thousand years ago we mistook each other for God.
And our idols made us their slaves.
They burned our flesh with fire
Until the Spirit was all that remained.
Yes, pain was still pain a thousand years ago
Because some things never change.
But grace is grace
And faithfulness is faithfulness
Because some things never should.
