Bird Racing with Blaze

winged migration

On my way to work this morning, a decent size bird decided to race me in my paint van.

It was intense.

I was merging on to I-85 coming in on the entrance ramp at about 20mph.

Then…

All of the sudden…

Out of the corner of my eye I see this bird flying just outside the passenger window.

Then, it actually started to pull ahead of me as I was accelerating.

It stayed just ahead of me right at my eye level (which in the paint van is about 7 ft. off the ground) only flapping its wings about once a second.

I couldn’t stop staring at it.

“No way.”

“Amazing!”

I said this out loud to myself.

I was a little afraid it was going to veer in front of the van, and I was going to run into it.

But it stayed just to the side of me for about a quarter of a mile. I should have checked the speedometer.

It was really cool.

The experience made me feel like I was a bird for a few seconds, flying alongside my bird buddy.

It reminded me of some of the footage from that Winged Migration movie.

I wondered if he was trying to impress a special bird friend.

Or just trying to impress me.

I give that bird the slow clap.

And nickname him Blaze.

Because Blaze was impressive for sure.
