New York – The Arrival

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010. Filed under: christmas new york

Thanks to the radical generosity of my brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Lisa, I was able to go to New York City with this girl.
She is Lisa’s younger sister, Melanie. And she is my wife.
This trip was an around-the-clock celebration. This is the first evening or our epic journey.

Fasten your seat belts and stop smoking. These are good reminders every now and then.
They should also add a no open door sign on this plane.

We had some thing on the wing.

Manhattan from the plane. The green light is the Empire State Building.
It’s so tiny and precious. Makes me want to just hold it in my hands and shake it up in a snow globe.

Caught a taxi in LaGuardia Airport to take us to Lisa and Paul’s in Brooklyn. The real adventures are about to begin.

Saw this Tron Lightcycle race going on outside our window. Only in New York.

This SUV was burning to ashes on the highway.

But we made it safely to the apartment and got to look at Downtown Brooklyn in one direction from the rooftop of their apartment.

And you can see Manhattan in the other direction. There’s the Empire State Building again.
We went back in and ordered some delicious bass and other Thai favorites from a Thai place nearby. The whole meal was killer.
Then we mapped out our touring plans for the coming days and went to bed.
Lisa and Paul gave us our own room…with a fan! Felt right at home. Turned that baby on high and got a good night’s sleep.
Big day tomorrow.
